Solar panels are being installed on two City of Greater Geelong buildings as part of the council’s push towards renewable energy.
A rooftop solar system is being placed on the roof of the Waurn Ponds Library.
Another system will be installed on the Grovedale Community Hub next month.
The City of Greater Geelong is hoping to cut corporate emissions by 50 per cent, lowering energy costs, by 2020.
Mayor Bruce Harwood said it would save more than 1,200 tonnes of greenhouse gases each year.
“This will have quite a positive impact on our community and our environment,” Cr Harwood said.
“We will continue to explore the options for solar power and hopefully save our community considerable amounts of money and also improve our environment.”
The Zero Carbon Buildings Program will soon have eight operational solar systems in effect.
